PLANTS: What are sequoias?

What is the largest giant sequoia?
The General Sherman tree in Sequoia National Park in California is 52,500+ cubic feet in volume. That makes it the largest tree on earth.
What is the tallest giant sequoia?
A tree in the Redwood Mountain Grove, Kings Canyon National Park is reported to be 93 metres tall!!!!!  Also a tree of the same height is reported in the South Calaveras Grove in Big Trees State Park.
What is the largest diameter trunk of a giant sequoia?
The General Grant tree of Kings Canyon National Park is commonly believed to have the largest diameter trunk of 12 metres. .
What is the oldest giant sequoia?
It is impossible to determine on a living tree. One sequoia that fell down was around 3200 years old when it died.
How big does a giant sequoia get?
The largest sequoia is the General Sherman Tree. The General Sherman is 83 metres tall, has a circumference of 31 metres, and a diameter of 9 metres.

SNAILS in the Class!


When we were studying the animals in class, Year 3 A decided to have some snails in the class.  We have seen how they eat, how they move...  and we have also seen how they lay eggs!!! Now we have lots of little baby snails.  And another snail has laid more eggs!  They hatch very fast and they start sliding very slowly.  Have a look at these pictures!

GET WELL SOON, SARA!

Dear students,

Today I'm sick at home with stomachache and with the stomach bug. I was not feeling very good this morning that is why I had to go to the doctor.

Sara's mother has sent me a message telling me that she had her appendix removed yesterday. Poor Sara! She may be in pain! She is in Lleida in the hospital and she will be there for some days. I thought that maybe you want to write her a "Get Well Soon" message here in the blog.

So, please, why don't you leave Sara a message? Maybe she will read them from hospital!

ENGLISH DAY

Dear students,

We are all on holidays now.  I hope you enjoy these days.  Last day of school was AMAZING!  Did you have fun?

Year 4 students did an excellent job presenting the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony.  And everybody at school did very well studying about other countries.  In the morning we did medals and exchanged them, we did some flags and played games.In the afternoon we all sang songs and danced the Sports Dance. It was really fun!

I have a question for you:  CAN YOU SAY WHAT YOU ENJOYED THE MOST?  WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE DAY?

And as a present, here you have a very beautiful picture of whe we wrote on the floor.  Isn't that GREAT?

NEWS FROM ENGLAND: DAYA and SARA

Two weeks ago Daya came to our class.  She was a teacher at our school some years ago when year 3 students were in P-5.  We learned lots of things about her because year 3 asked her lots of questions.  She was very happy to see that you all talk very good English!  She is living in England now, in a city called Bristol.  Here you can see her in Bristol.



Sara, went to London last week.  Remember that London is the capital of the United Kingdom.  The Olympic Games are going to be held in London this Summer!  Here you can see some pictures that Sara has sent us.  She  is there with her mother, Grandma, aunt Katy, uncle Paul and her little cousins Adam and Isabella.  She had a great time there!

ROBIN HOOD

Year 3 and year 4 students have watched the movie Robin Hood and now we are going to read the story and prepare a play. We are going to paint different sets for the scenes.  We will create our own costumes, too!!!

This story comes from the United Kingdom.  Our Comenius friends from the UK did an excellent job at their school, and we are going to read and learn about it.

This is a fragment of the movie.  You can watch it and remember who are the main characters in this story.  In every class students will play the story.

PANCAKE DAY: LISTEN TO OUR SONG!!!

Last Tuesday was PANCAKE DAY.  Sara brought us some books and we read them in class.  We learned that British cook and eat lots of pancakes on that day. 

Last year we cooked pancakes in school and we still remember the song we practiced during last year's English Day.  We also did some pancake races like the one in the pictures.

HERBIVORES, CARNIVORES, OMNIVORES

This week we have studied that we can classify animals depending on what they EAT.

PEACE DAY

Dear boys and girls,

It's PEACE day today.  You have all read a story in class in Spanish, The War of the Bells by Giani Rodari.  We brought this story from our first Comenius exchange in Turkey. The Italian students in Campobello di Licata, Sicily read this story and prepared  a video for us. 
We have all learned a nice song that you can find in our school's website.  However, some of you wanted to hear the PEACE song we learned last year.  So here you have the video:

A story from TURKEY

A very famous man in Turkey is HODJA.  He is a wise old man and there are lots of stories about him.  You can learn a lot with his stories.  We brought one story when we went to Gebze, Turkey in October in the first Comenius meeting. 

Here you have a nice story with this character.  Maybe some of you will read one of his stories in Catalán.  you will see soon with Lorena.
